Google Reader и оффлайн-агрегаторы
Мне нравятся сервисы от Google. Но сейчас буду ругать, что мне обычно не свойственно. Вот уже очень долгое время я использую Google Reader. Этот RSS-агрегатор полностью устраивает меня в плане интерфейса. Кроме того, очень радует то, что Google Reader обеспечивает единство RSS-подписок вне зависимости от компьютера, с которого я вышел в сеть. Это многого стоит.
Но есть у него и недостаток, который меня напрягает все больше. Это крайняя неторопливость в сборе материалов с RSS-лент. Раньше проходило в среднем около часа, прежде чем новый материал с какой-либо ленты появлялся в Google Reader. Это было не очень приятно, но, в принципе, терпимо. Но в последнее время задержка составляет два, три, четыре и даже более часов. С моей точки зрения, это просто недопустимо. Теряется вообще смысл использования RSS.
В итоге я сегодня на домашней машине решил поставить standalone-агрегатор. Пожалуй, это первый раз, когда я отказываюсь от онлайнового сервиса Google в пользу оффлайнового. Выбор пал на Akregator.
Программа понравилась. Интервал сбора материалов настраивается. Интерфейс можно сделать практически таким же, как у Google Reader. Висит в трее и уведомляет о новых статьях. В общем, впечатления крайне положительные за исключением одного момента - я теряю независимость от конкретной рабочей станции. Конечно, это естественно для оффлайнового клиента, но все равно не радует. Так что я надеюсь, что в Google Reader в обозримом будущем сделают все-таки нормальное обновление материалов. Сейчас его ценность для меня, увы, полностью упала.

Как вариант, сделать онлайн-агрегатор и повесить его у себя на хостинге. Себе я представляю это так.
back-end: скрипт на любом языке, который бегает по нужным фидам, агрегирует их в единый поток и сохраняет на сервере. Этакий Pipe + crond.
front-end: на сторону пользователя, естественно, выдаётся единый поток.
Плюсы и минусы данного подхода, думаю, рассказывать не надо. =)
P.S.: Кто спать будет?

Я давно хотел сделать то же самое, даже начал делать. Только мне не хватает познаний в php, потому не получается сделать быстро, а на долгую разработку просто нет времени. :(

А я лично использую Brief. Удобно... Сразу в фоксе читается... И для меня есть все функции... Хотя какие - то глюки в БД есть... Иногда старые темы мелькают...

Кстати, вот использование расширения для фокса - это действительно эффективное решение. Только как быть в случае, когда используется несколько рабочих станций? Там есть синхронизация прочитанных сообщений?

А мне, вот, не важно супер оперативное обновление фидов. Все равно у меня в очереди постоянно висят пару сотен непрочитанных.
Те, что для меня особенно важны в плане оперативности я пометил тегом to_read.
Вот именно их можно было бы читать оффлайновым ридером.
Кстати, объясните мне, как вообще работает RSS с точки зрения агрегатора, в принципе? При закачке новой версии фида, сравнивается ли она со старой? Новые записи ищутся только вначале файла или везде и т.п.
Есть где-то популярная инфа по этой теме, никто не видел?

Мне тоже не важно очень уж оперативное обновление. Час - это более-менее терпимый вариант. Но когда обновление тянется 5 часов - это уже перебор...

Ну насколько я себе представляю, каждый сайт просто предоставляет XML-файл с некоторым количеством последних записей. 10 или 20, зависит от сайта. Агрегатор его скачивает, сравнивает с текущим и выделяет новые записи.

Да, судя по статистике моего блога — Akregator на втором месте за Google Reader. Видимо, действительно неплох (хотя я ни разу не пробовал). На третьем Opera. Когда-то пользовался Liferea, но переключился на Google Reader, потому что у него интерфейс удобнее, и можно с телефона в транспорте читать так же, как с компа.
А Bloglines пробовал пользоваться? Тоже онлайн-аггрегатор. И даже сочетания клавиш те же, что и в Google Reader...

Позволь не согласиться насчёт "Теряется вообще смысл использования RSS". Смысль RSS -- АГРЕГАЦИЯ, т.е. сбор в одной точке информации из кучи источников. Если нужна оперативность -- тебе нужен тикер (обычно показывает изменения котировок акций, счёт в матчах и проч., но я видел что и новые статьи со Slashdot и проч.) :-)
Мне с Google Reader проще: я читаю фиды уже вечером, после рабочего дня :-))
Насчёт клиента... Есть BlogBridge. Насколько я помню, там есть возможность синхронизировать данные (список фидов, тэги и что уже прочтено а что нет) на разных компьютерах, но подробностей уже не помню.

Весь жизненнонеобходимый софт и базы я таскаю с собой. =) Проблема синхронизации ушла в прошлое. А кто мне покажет современную рабочую станцию без USB, тому бубен свой админский подарю.

Да, это хороший выход из положения. Но мне, к примеру, не подходит. Потому что у меня на работе Windows, а дома Linux.

А к чему кроссплатформенные агрегаторы? Например, старенький, но проверенный RSSOwl. А ещё можно носить две версии на флешке: для Linux И Windows. Всё равно основные агрегаторы скомпилированы под все распространённые системы, а формат баз для разных сборок всё равно один.

Громоздкое решение получается, имхо. Плюс становится неудобным процесс обновлений. К примеру, если появилась новая версия того же Akregator, то он автоматически у меня обновится в Ubuntu из репозитариев. А так придется ручками обновлять на флэшке.
К тому же, заморачиваться софтом на usb-флэшке только ради RSS нет особого смысла. Тогда уж и IM-клиент (Psi), почта, броузер... Они все есть кроссплатформенные, но, опять же, проблема с обновлениями. Плюс не совсем тривиальное использование в Linux. Придется то ли chroot делать, то ли home как-то хитро мэппить... В общем, имхо, в случае использования разных ОС, овчинка не стоит выделки. Теоретически все решаемо, но гемора много.

Да ну! Всё дело в настрое. Гемор существует для того, кто в него верит. =)
Если нужно, то сделать недолго и несложно. Обновление происходит не так часто, я вообще не заморачиваюсь по этому поводу. Да и кто мешает в Linux'е настроить обновление софта на флеше? А виндовые варианты сами обновляются.
Ну а если на самом деле не нужно, то и заморачиваться только ради того, "чтобы было", не стоит.

Ну а насчет оперативности... У меня есть несколько каналов, которые мне хочется читать достаточно оперативно (новости и т.д.). Да, тикер может помочь. Но зачем плодить сущности? Ведь RSS как технология вполне позволяет получать информацию достаточно оперативно.

Blogbridge написан на Java, так что работает и под Линуксом, и под виндой.
Насчёт оперативности: а принудительно рефрешнуть канал в Google Reader? Есть же клавиша "r". Или не помогает?

Нет, рефреш не помогает. Проблема в том, что Google Reader сам по себе медленно скачивает обновления к себе на сервер. Соответственно, и клиенту их не выдает.

Ну, честно говоря, Akregator - это просто первое, что я вспомнил из RSS-ридеров для Linux. ;-) Комплексами по поводу использования KDE-софта в Gnome я не страдаю. Akregator меня полностью устроил, так почему бы и нет? :-)

Где-то (кажется на хабре) проскакивала инфа, что фид в Google Reader обновляются раз в час, если на него подписано более одного человека, либо раз в 3 часа, если только один.
